Celluloid Heroes was a brief that asked to use motion pictures as inspiration and use this to illustrate a key aspect of the narrative which could be based on a key scene in an existing movie or not.
Instead of just creating one key scene from a specific movie, themes and genres were used instead and a series of key scenes were illustrated. These genres being mystery, action, fantasy, and adventure. Each genre was illustrated in a particular way and used different mediums.
For mystery, the illustration was created with an intention of seeing only particular features of the character, blurring the darkness and the character to create the sense of mystery around her.
The focus was to try and zone in on the scene before a fight would eventually occur. The use of the silhouettes were to create a certain depth and the illustration is left intentionally minimal to focus on the character herself.
Fantasy, the colour was the most important aspect of the illustration, as they were used to make the surrounding environment for the character and the audience very unfamiliar. Watercolour was used to create this dreamy environment, and the character was coloured with duller colours to make it so that she would stand out against the colourful surroundings.
Adventure was created through digital means in order to create the bright and colourful effect of the character obtaining this crystal. Bright colours were used to emphasise the joy felt by the character.
